Day 1

40Cuban todymineeTransfer in night in la Havana Hotel El Lido

Day 2

11Fernandina FlickerAfter breakfast at the hotel, we will go to San Diego de Los Banos. On the way we will hope to see the endemic Cuban Blackbird, Snail Kite, American kestrel (red morph), Smooth-billed Ani, Greater Antillean Grackle, Mourning Dove, Antillean Palm Swift and more. Then we will drive to our accommodation in San Diego de los Banos, check in and have lunch at the hotel. In the afternoon, we will walk around La Guira. There we will try for the cute endemics – Cuban Trogon, Cuban Tody, West Indian Woodpecker, Olive-capped Warbler, and the more difficult endemic Yellow-headed Warbler. At dusk, we will look for the Antillean Nighthawk and Cuban Nightjar.

Day 3

23Great lizard-CuckooThis morning we will visit Cueva de los Fortales. Here we will look for the Cuban Solitaire, Cuban Tody, Cuban Trogon, Cuban Green Woodpecker and Cuban Blackbird. We will also enjoy this historical place, where Che Guevara used as a camp site for the revolution, because of the October crisis between the United States and Cuba, and Che Guevara use this site as a military base. We will spend some time and enjoy the walk around there. After our visit we will continue birding and try for the cute Cuban Grassquit, Black-whiskered Vireo, and West Indian woodpecker, and then we will go to Las Cortinas Park. After lunch, we will drive back to La Havana and then to the Zapata Peninsula where we will stay for the next 3 nights. On the way we will stop to try to see Red-winged Blackbird, Cuban Martin and Cuban Parrot.

Day 4

24Cuban pygmy-OwlmineToday we will spend the day birding around Zapata National Park, where we will visit Rio Atihuanuco, La Turba and Playa Larga. We will search for the Zapata Wren, Zapata Sparrow, Cuban Oriole, Bee Hummingbird, Cuban Pygmy Owl, Cuban Nightjar, Cuban Vireo, Cuban Crow and more in this endemic hotspot.

Day 5

27 Bee HummingbirdThis day we will visit La Bermeja, where we will look for the Blue-headed Quail-Dove, Gray-headed Quail-Dove, Cuban Screech-Owl, Cuban Crow and Northern Flicker. We will enjoy a leisurely afternoon giving us the opportunity to relax and enjoy the surroundings.

Night in Playa Larga.

Day 6

28 Bee HummingbirdIf we have missed any of the endemics in the Zapata Peninsula in the previous days we will have this morning in hopes to see the remainder. We will pack up and spend the afternoon on route to Camaguey.

Night at Hacienda La Belen.

Day 7

50Cuban TrogonmineeEarly this morning, we will drive to La Belen to look for more good birds including the endemic Cuban Parakeet, Plain Pigeon, Giant Kingbird and more. After lunch we will go to Cayo Coco, a good location to see the Cuban Gnatcatcher, Cuban Black-Hawk, White-winged Dove and more.

Day 8

This morning we will visit Cayo Paredon Grande, where we will look for the endemic Oriente Warbler, Cuban Gnatcatcher, Zapata Sparrow, Cuban Black-Hawk, as well as Northern Mockingbird, Thick-billed Vireo, Cuban Emerald and West Indian Whistling Duck. The difficult bird to find is the endemic Gundlach’s Hawk. It is very rare and unfortunately the population is not doing well. Today we will also visit La Cueva de La Jabali, to look for the Key West Quail-Dove, Oriente Warbler, Clapper Rail and more.

Day 9

92Cuban Green WoodpeckermineeThis morning we will go to Cabo Guillermo in hopes to see Bahamas Mockingbird, Greater Flamingo, Key West Quail-Dove. Here we will also have the opportunity to relax at one of the best beaches in Playa Pilar.

Night in Cayo Coco.

Day 10

CTOdyThis morning we will take a flight back to La Havana. Upon arrival, we will enjoy a city tour in Old Havana.
